Technique Tuesday Week #2

Well after 5 hours of messing with 2 laptops and our PC, I finally figured out the computer problems I created last night.

On that note, onto the post which was meant for yesterday's Tuesday Technique how to. Heat embossing and making your own resist pattern.

First gather your supplies:

You will need....
*Embossing Powder (I chose clear so the Colonial white paper would show through).
*Embossing Buddy (powder filled satchel that removes the static from your paper so the the embossing powder only sticks where you want it to.
*Heat tool (Embossing gun)
*Versamark (I prefer versamark over embossing ink).
*Stamp of choice
*Ink and sponges if you want to color some ink on your resist pattern. (I chose Vineyard Berry, Creme Brulee, and Juniper. One of my favorite color combinations).
*Something to catch your embossing powder. You can use a tray made just for this or a piece of copy paper works fine too. Easy peasy to dump the excess back into the container.

Dive in.......

1. Rub embossing buddy over surface you will be embossing.
2. Stamp image using versamark ink randomly on paper. Versamark is like a clear tacky ink, so you will want to pay a little extra attention where you are stamping.
3. sprinkle embossing powder over stamped images.
4. Tap off excess into catch tray or copy paper. I then dump it right back into container. You don't want to accidentally aim your heat tool at it while embossing your image. Trust me, I have done this. It's not a good thing. ;)
5. Heat your image(s). Careful here!!! The heat tool gets very hot quick. you will see the powder melt as you move the heat tool over the image. As soon as it melts, move on to a new area. You can burn the powder creating a "burnt" image. Yup! Done this one too. ;)

The picture above is after embossing. Hopefully, you can see it okay. It is not easy photographing clear embossing powder.

The final step.. Adding a dash of color.

Sponge your ink onto the embossed images. The image itself will resist the ink so only the paper absorbs the color. After applying your random ink sponging, wife entire surface with paper towel. This removes any loose ink on your embossed images.

I used the paisley stamp that is in this great Rock The Block set. This is a E sized set, so that is a whopping 8 x 10 sheet of stamps! The only way to get this set is to buy $25 in items from the Autumn / Winter idea book. Plus, it comes with the set of chipboard blocks that I showed a few days ago. The bundle is only $15 which is a savings of $29.90!

Computers ugh!

So no real blog post today.  It seems while trying to set a password for our wireless internet I have managed to lock myself out of the router.  Now our main pc is not connecting. Ugh!  So here I am blogging from my phone so I don't mess up the resolution to post every day. 

Hopefully, I can get this figured out soon!

Heat Embossing

Just getting home from grocery shopping and Nancy's home gathering. A shout out to Nancy for inviting me over to teach her and her friends some crafty goodness. I surely love this job! This is the card I originally had planned to do, but decided to change it up to another that I liked better and was a little simpler for a home party. I will show that one tomorrow along with a technique how-to on heat embossing

I used the Paisley and sentiment from the Rock The block set that is on special this month for the background. The hearts are from Love Life.

Okay, down to 8 minutes before the midnight deadline for post a day in 2012. Gotta Run! I know my time is off on here, just haven't figured out how to fix it yet. Techy Schmecky.... Yes, my own word.

A little bit of Everything today..........

It's a good thing Zane doesn't mind housework and picks up where I am lacking. It seems I always get sidetracked. I started off the day with the best of intentions, set the timer and got moving. The timer is my best friend when it comes to getting things done. I set it for say 1 hour and have a set amount of things I have to get done in that hour. I do this with Tyler and Emily as well. Works like a charm. Only today, not so much.......

First, while putting away the new CTMH idea books, I found these cardboard rectangles that they used for packing the Stamp of the month sets.

I couldn't bring myself to throw them away, so I made this.....

I found some velvet matting paper I had stored in a vase waiting for that "perfect project". I hung a piece of cord across the top, then hung some adorable little hangers from my scrapbooking stash to hang pictures from. LOVE IT!!!

Now when you come in our front door, you see this nice little collage of pictures instead of a boring armoire side.

Then I remembered we never hung the dry erase board I had made before Christmas.

Zane really likes this one. We have been needing a place to keep track of things that really need to be done and what to have for dinner. With his memory problems, these little notes are a lifesavor. I used some retired Lucky Paper and stickease under the glass.

Movin' on......

I had put together these little 3 x 3 cards for customer order bags last night. That's another business resolution I have, to place a Thank You with every order because I am truly grateful for their business. Suddenly, while cleaning the counter I remembered I needed to stickle them. Imagine that!

But wait, when I had pulled out the matting paper I found a roll of contact paper I was going to cover some bins with. After seeing all the altered file cabinets on Pinterest, I decided ours was a little bland.

Unfortunately, when you do things on the fly like I do, this is what happens. Only enough paper for 1 drawer. So now, I need to write that on the to buy list. Maybe I will use fabric instead, not sure.

Now off to set the timer again, I hope it works better this time around.

More Wonderland

I just cannot bring myself to get rid of the tidbits of wonderland paper I have leftover on my work area. I like to have pre-made pages made up for crops. I don't create very well away from home, so I like to take pages with me that are mostly done and add pictures and the finishing touches at weekend retreats and crops. Plus, then I don't feel so bad knowing I was gone for 2 days and did 8 pages.

This page was made with the leftover border strips and labels from a card project. I will add small pictures inside each of the labels.

The snowflakes are once again from the "snowflakes" set and cut with the AP cartridge.

I used Heavenly blue, Spring Iris, and Grey Flannel to stamp the snowflakes, then sponged the edges with twilight. They are so pretty!

Believe Workshop

January's workshop night we will be making these pages. I really like the Sky and Sweet Leaf color combination in these papers. This workshop we will be using The Believe Level 2 paper packet and Believe Stickease. I added 4 pieces of White Daisy Cardstock for photo mats and one page background. Two of the designs are the ones shown on the back of the Stickease and the 3rd is from the Levitate sketch in the Magic How To Book.

Only the 3rd page uses stamping for the accents. I used images from the October Stamp Of The Month set Holiday Magic. Even after finishing the 3 pages I still had a good amount of pattern paper left for more projects. I hope to get pictures printed this weekend so I can add them during the workshop.

You may have seen my earlier post about my nephew Daniel being deployed to Afghanistan.  He should have arrived there today if everything went according to planned.   This is his second tour.  The first deployment he was in Iraq.  So, please keep him and the rest of the troops in your prayers.

Fortunately, he was able to come home for a few days for the holidays.  Ruby and Ivy were tickled pink to see him.  It was so sweet when Ivy said "I have been missing you, Uncle Daniel".
