Memory box continued........

While Tyler and Emily were at school today,  I managed to finish up the CTMH memory game box I started on Saturday.
Then around 1:00 I heard my phone vibrating around on the counter.
Emily wasn't feeling well and wanted to come home.
Picture this.... me standing in the craft corner, covered in ink, hair all astray, still in my pajamas, thinking "crap! I knew I should have showered this morning".
I was in no shape to go walking into school.
Emily would have been mortified!
Good to know I can still shower and be out the door in 5 in the case of an emergency.
I am sure the secretary enjoyed my drowned rat appearance. Classy!

Anyways, the product of my inkiness.........

Since this is going to my Nephew in Afghanistan, I wanted it to be very inky and grungy looking.

The memory box comes with 24 - 3 x 3 chipboard squares inside.  I added various pictures of family members on each one, then stamped random words on them.

I used the same words on 2 of each tile.  Just in case he decides to play a little game of "memory" during some downtime.  Zane thinks I am crazy for that one, but you never know.  Big tough military guys like to play too.

On the backs of the tiles,  I put some bible verses and other inspirational quotes.

So Daniel, if you read my blog, make sure you are surprised when it comes in the mail.  We love and miss you.  I hope you like the memory box and enjoy the vernors :).

That's all for now, have a great night!

Composition book purse

A little twist on the altered composition book.   I simply made a triangle template and used an exacto knife to cut the corners off.   It takes a few cuts on each corner, cutting through a few pages at a time.   The little flap closes with velcro to hold the "purse" shut.   This will be perfect for my niece Ivy who is turning  4 in a few days.

Rock The Block Workshop

I had a very hard time deciding what to do with the collage cubes for a workshop. Thanks to a fellow consultant, I finally came up with an idea. Thank you Susan Daniels!

We will be making a "one sheet wonder" piece of pattern paper using the Rock the Block stamp set for our cubes. This was a total lift from Susan.

The workshop is February 10th if you would like more information, shoot me an email at angiehighland@gmail.com

Moving on.....

We have had 4 snow days in the last 2 weeks. It's not looking good for tomorrow either. Last night it thawed, creating water over ice on the country roads. Now it is snow, rain, sleet mix, temperatures are dropping and the wind is picking up. Which means, the water covered roads are turning into an ice rink.

Tyler is sweating it because he has exams starting Wednesday. They haven't received any study guides, etc. due to no school. Emily is upset because Drama and Volleyball were supposed to start today. No school, no sports. Bummer.

Emily was thrilled when she went for her PE today. She is officially 2 inches taller than me. I saved the sheet that the nurse wrote her vitals on so I could add it to a scrapbook page. Emily told the nurse, "see what I have to put up with". Someday she will thank me. After all, it could be very valuable information. On 1/23/2011 she was officially taller than her mother. Tee Hee. :)

Okay, Rambling again.

Have a great evening and thank you for stopping by. :)

A fun little project

I put together the block collage for the "Rock The Block" special that is going on this month a few weeks ago. I just realized I never posted it.

Sorry about the bad picture. I am tired and today was a very lazy day in the Highland house. In fact, it was so lazy that my phone has been on the charger in the bedroom all day. Emily and I laid on the couch and watched movies for most of the day. Every now and then you just need a day to recharge.

A little bit of Everything today..........

It's a good thing Zane doesn't mind housework and picks up where I am lacking. It seems I always get sidetracked. I started off the day with the best of intentions, set the timer and got moving. The timer is my best friend when it comes to getting things done. I set it for say 1 hour and have a set amount of things I have to get done in that hour. I do this with Tyler and Emily as well. Works like a charm. Only today, not so much.......

First, while putting away the new CTMH idea books, I found these cardboard rectangles that they used for packing the Stamp of the month sets.

I couldn't bring myself to throw them away, so I made this.....

I found some velvet matting paper I had stored in a vase waiting for that "perfect project". I hung a piece of cord across the top, then hung some adorable little hangers from my scrapbooking stash to hang pictures from. LOVE IT!!!

Now when you come in our front door, you see this nice little collage of pictures instead of a boring armoire side.

Then I remembered we never hung the dry erase board I had made before Christmas.

Zane really likes this one. We have been needing a place to keep track of things that really need to be done and what to have for dinner. With his memory problems, these little notes are a lifesavor. I used some retired Lucky Paper and stickease under the glass.

Movin' on......

I had put together these little 3 x 3 cards for customer order bags last night. That's another business resolution I have, to place a Thank You with every order because I am truly grateful for their business. Suddenly, while cleaning the counter I remembered I needed to stickle them. Imagine that!

Close up of card. Using The last of the Wonderland paper. So sad :(

But wait, when I had pulled out the matting paper I found a roll of contact paper I was going to cover some bins with. After seeing all the altered file cabinets on Pinterest, I decided ours was a little bland.

Unfortunately, when you do things on the fly like I do, this is what happens. Only enough paper for 1 drawer. So now, I need to write that on the to buy list. Maybe I will use fabric instead, not sure.

Now off to set the timer again, I hope it works better this time around.

Chore Board

Yes.... I have been a very bad blogger this week. Things have been a little hectic adjusting to our new routines.

Two things I have figured out.
1. I am not cut out for housework. Figured this one out last night cleaning the shower, apparently when you are 50 lbs overweight and standing on the edge of the tub, you fall. Lesson learned.
2. Wow! Do dogs shed! I have been a tad obsessive about sweeping the floors since I noticed how much dog hair collects in a mere 24 hours. Zane use to do this one. I had no idea!

In my effort to make my kids accountable for the chore money they are earning. I made up this cute dry erase board to list their daily chores each morning. Looks much cuter than a piece of paper on the counter :).

I used triangles of each of the new CTMH papers for the photo mat then added some faux stitching to make it look like a quilt.

The title letters are from the new CTMH Art Philosophy Cricut Cartridge. The chipboard pennants come with the cartridge bundle. I feel like I need to paint the frame for a more country or vintage feel. Maybe another day. For now it works.

Have a great day!

Close To My Heart August Stamp Of The Month Blog Hop

Welcome to our Stamp of the Month Blog Hop! We will be featuring the August SOTM, which is Wicked, a set of 9 stamps. If you have come here from Judy's Blog, you are on the right path! The blog hop is a great big circle, so you can start here and work your way all around. If you get lost along the way, you’ll find the complete list of participating consultants here .

This month we have over 60 Close To My Heart Consultants sharing their creations using this month's SOTM and other great CTMH products on their blogs. This is simple to do - just click on the link at the end of the post on each blog to move to the next one! Here we go!

The project I chose to do is a sleeve for a package of microwave popcorn. These will be so fun to give to some special friends on my list this Halloween. They are super easy to make! Simply cut a 5 1/2" x 9" piece of cardstock, then score and fold at 2 1/4" and 2 1/2" from each end. Wrap the cardstock around the popcorn package and glue the two overlapping ends together with your favorite scrapbooking adhesive.

Before assembling the sleeve, you can stamp the cardstock with whatever you choose to dress it up a bit. I used the honeycomb background stamp that comes int the SOTM set, alternating rows of Pansy Purple and Sunflower. To make the front, use a die or image off the new CTMH Art Philosophy Cartridge, cut it so you have 2 pieces, one larger and one smaller. Then stamp the sentiment on the smaller piece and the wonderful witch image on the larger. I put a couple brads and wrapped some natural Hemp around them to make it look like the sleeve is tied shut. The sleeve actually slides off, this was just for looks.

Super quick and easy!

Here's what you get with the August SOTM set.

Now "Hop" on over to Gina's to see her work! Be sure to visit all the Consultants at their Blogs to get some great crafting ideas and other fun ideas! Remember, the August SOTM is only available until the 31st! Contact your CTMH Consultant (or click here) to see how you can get this stamp set at a discount or even free!

Art Journal

I finally got around to decorating the most recent journal I have been using. The Close To My Heart My Creations Journal is a great book to alter. I love that it has unlined white pages and white chipboard covers. The front cover has a clear pocket to slide your cover art into. This really helps keep your journal looking nice.

I use a journal to record ideas I want to try, rough draft journaling for layouts, and try various medium techniques. Pretty much anything I might want to remember.

I am going to make 1 more taller candle and 1 more shorter candle, get a little tray from the dollar store and put them all in a cute basket for a Christmas gift. Your own little candle village. I just love how everything turned out!

Close up of the Card.... I colored things in with Crayola Colored Pencils, this was a first for me. I hope Tyler and Emily don't notice their pencils are missing :)

Close up of Candle.....
These are super fun and easy to make.
1. Trim white tissue paper the height of your white candle (bought mine at the dollar store).
2. Cut tissue paper long enough to wrap around your candle with about 1/2 " overhang.
3. Stamp your images on tissue paper, then color in with colored pencils however you choose.
4. Wrap tissue paper around candle. Needs to be smooth around candle.
5. Wrap wax paper around candle, grasping the ends with your hand by bunching it up in your fist.
6. Heat one side of candle with heat tool. You will be able to see the tissue paper melting into the candle.
7. Remove wax paper and continue to re wrap and heating until you have completed all around the candle.
Don't worry if you don't get every spot, you can touch up any areas without the wax paper if you have any areas that didn't melt good.

Close up of Writing Tablet.... (You can buy these in packs of 3 at the dollar store).

Inside of writing tablet..... Notice the cute little pocket.

My final project today was this adorable snowflake ornament. I used the new Cricut Cartridge I bought yesterday called When It's Cold Outside. You can't tell by the picture, but the silver is actually stickles. I can't wait to make some of the other patterns, especially the 3 D ones.

When I uploaded my pictures I remembered I had taken a couple pictures of Baby Ruby Over the weekend. Such a little chunky monkey :)
